Shower Benches are one of the greatest assets for every bathroom. They make the bathroom extra useful and better looking. Nearly everyone can use a shower in their bath, but many things need to be considered before getting one installed. The size of it is the most important of them. The accurate dimensions depend on the user’s size. The user’s size is the most reliable way to find out how high, wide, and deep your shower bench should be.
The Accurate Height
A shower bench must not be out of reach high. The height should be flexible to be suitable for everyone to use. The simple rule is that the shower bench must be 1 inch below the back of your knees. In case many people are using a shower seat, consider the knee length of the shortest person. A taller person can comfortably fit even if the height is less; a shorter person will have to jump if the bench is high.
Ahead of confirming everything, evaluate the height and measure every side. Because once the bench is fixed, you can’t do anything about it unless you ruin your wall.
The Americans and Disabilities Act (ADA) recommends shower benches should be between 17 and 19 inches. This is the range followed by many people, which will fit almost everyone If one is not extremely short). A shower bench that is 17 to 19 inches high is a safe choice for disabled people or the ones that are incapable of standing for long. The ADA also recommends that the bench’s rear edge should be a maximum of 2½ inches, while the anterior edge should range between 15 to 16 inches from the wall.
The Absolute Width of a Shower Bench
There is no must rule for the width, and you are free to decide how wide do you want it to be. It would be best if you kept in mind that it must be big enough to sit comfortably for everybody using it and not be very wide to take extra space in the shower.
ADA also does not mention any measurements for the width of the seat. Still, we would highly suggest installing a shower seat that is at least 14 inches wide. In our opinion, that is a luxurious and comfortable size for a shower bench. But, if the user cannot fit, you can go for a width of up to 36 inches.

Despite how wide you want your shower bench to be, you must make sure that it fits your shower area. You must measure the size of the user and the size of your shower area multiple times to have the perfect idea of the width that you desire for your shower bench.
The Perfect Depth
How deep is your shower bench is the most important of the three dimensions. The depth will undoubtedly influence not only comfort but also the posture. The shower bench is suggested to be between 15 and 16 inches deep when it comes to ADA. This way, you will sit comfortably over it and not have any problem getting up from the seat. For the L-shaped seats, 14-15 inches deep seat would do. Because they provide some space at the corner, they are on a bit narrower side.

Minimum Weight Capacity
The perfect size is not complete unless you know the ideal weight your shower bench can carry. If it can not hold the right weight, it is just a waste of money and space. It again depends on the weight of the user, the most heavier in this case. The reasonable weight capacity for a shower bench must be at least 10 pounds more than your weight. These benches withdraw some strength over the period, so there is no chance of getting it too near the user’s weight. No one wants to hurt themselves because of the breaking of a shower bench.
According to ADA, the shower benches are suggested to bear up at least 250 pounds or more, depending on your weight. Now you would have enough information about how big your shower bench must be. The shower bench size depends on the size of the user and the space of your bathroom. So make sure to measure both multiple times before you install the suitable shower bench for yourself.
